Rather, you'd walk away going 'Man, these guys put themselves through a lot just to entertain us.'
Having been a fan of wrestling since childhood, I have to admit I LOVED this movie. And having viewed so many "Beyond the Mat" documentaries, I had that much more appreciation of the film. From how they show how they blade themselves during a match, to all the steroid and drug use. Mickey Rourke told not just a fictional story but the real life story of a lot of wrestlers.
I mean thats how those guys really live.Which is why the documentary style in which the film was shot was a very good idea. Good one Darren.
But the movie goes beyond just telling the secrets of wrestling. But a living train wreck of a man who can only win inside the ring. I mean some of it was so hard watch actually. Just watching the "ram" endure so much hardship from losing is family and trying to make ends meet was almost tragic. But most of the ruin he brought into his life was his doing and yet you will feel nothing but sympathy for him.
But my favorite scene had to be the nintendo scene. When the rourke pulls out the old NES and plays with the kid. And the kid asked him about Call of Duty 4 and he has no idea what he's talking about. Haha.
But I HIGHLY recommend this movie. Wrestling fan or not, you'll love it.
